stage three

Select Your Services

Now that you’ve spent time understanding yourself & your ideal client, it’s time to talk about what you will do for work. 👔

Perhaps you’ve already been working and have some experience in a particular field, and now you want to transfer that knowledge into an online career.

Or maybe you have no idea what to do - but you’re planning to figure it out along the way.

Either way, we’ve got you covered!

In this stage, you’ll narrow down your ideas into a single niche that you can confidently step into (and take over). 💪

Remember: One of the best things about freelancing is that you’re not stuck in just one job. You can try different things and explore several career paths at the same time (for example: copy-writing, proofreading, editing, transcription, translation, etc…)

Find Your Niche

To help you discover your Niche, we’re going to use the Hedgehog Concept! 🦔

Note: If you’ve already taken the Free Hedgehog Challenge, you can skip this part.

The Hedgehog Concept is based on an ancient Greek parable that states: "The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing."

Watch this video to learn a little more about how the Hedgehog Concept can help you get ahead in your career. 👇 Once that’s done, open your Workbook to complete the exercise.

Research The Competition

Learning from people who are already doing what you want to do is one of the best ways to improve your services FAST. 🔥

Research what other freelancers in your industry are offering for their services. Try to find at least three people you really admire who are at the top of their game, doing exactly what you want to do (or as close as possible). 🕵️‍♀️ Out of these three, choose ONE to be your unofficial “mentor”.

Important: Don’t see them as competitors, but rather as mentors or experts who you can learn from.

Immerse yourself in this person’s world and get to know their business philosophy, marketing strategies, products or services, and pricing strategy.

#ProTip: Google is your best friend. Start by searching for “freelance (insert your niche)”

Choose A Mentor

After you’ve researched your competition and seen what the pros are doing, it’s time to choose an unofficial “mentor”.

A mentor is someone you look up to who is already successfully doing what you want to do. You may already have a person in mind who you’ve been following online.

Our mentor is Marie Forleo! Who’s yours?

Don’t belittle your work, the quality of service you can offer, and the growth you can contribute to your clients’ business. You don’t have to start out as excellent, you just have to be eager and interested.
